A Pilgrimage of Hope: Join the Jubilee of Catechists

All are warmly invited to the "Jubilee of Catechists," a special two-day pilgrimage to the Heart of Gippsland. This spiritual journey is a wonderful opportunity for reflection and community.

This pilgrimage will take us to some of the most beautiful and historic churches in our diocese. Over the two days, we will visit St. Joseph's in Dargo, St. Michael's in Heyfield, St. Mary's in Maffra, St. Ita's in Newry, and St. Brigid's in Cowwarr. The schedule is filled with opportunities for spiritual nourishment, including Mass, Rosary, a special blessing of Catechists, Adoration and Benediction, and fellowship over shared meals.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Saturday, September 27th, 2025

 A Journey to Dargo

  • 10:00 AM: Depart from St. Mary's Church, Maffra.

  • The day begins with a trip to St. Joseph's, Dargo. Here, you will have time for personal prayer and contemplation, followed by a visit to the local cemetery.

  • A shared lunch will be enjoyed by all.

  • 4:30 PM: Estimated return to Maffra.

Evening in Heyfield

  • 5:15 PM: Join the local parishioners at St. Michael's, Heyfield for the Rosary.

  • 6:00 PM: Mass will be celebrated.


 

Day 2: Sunday, September 28th, 2025

Morning: Mass in Maffra and Newry 

  • 8:25 AM: The day starts at St. Mary's Church, Maffra, with Rosary and Mass. A special blessing of Catechists will take place during this time. Afterwards, enjoy a cuppa and a visit to the old school and convent.

  • 11:00 AM: We will travel to St. Ita's, Newry, for Mass in the beautiful 135-year-old church set amongst the paddocks.

Afternoon: Adoration and Lunch in Cowwarr

  • 12:30 PM: The pilgrimage concludes at the historic St. Brigid's, Cowwarr. We will finish our spiritual journey with Adoration and Benediction.

  • 1:00 PM: A final BYO (Bring Your Own) shared lunch will follow.

Various accommodation options are available to suit your needs:

  • Free RV camping in Heyfield

  • Free camping at Newry

  • Motel accommodation (please arrange independently)

  • Paid camping at Lake Glenmaggie
