A significant day unfolded at Shanagolden as the residents welcomed Bishop Greg on a special occasion on 26th of July 2023. The visit, filled with warmth and spiritual significance, marked the celebration of the 100th birthdays of two remarkable residents: Anne Purcell and Daphne Wright. Bishop Greg presented blessings from Pope Francis to both Anne and Daphne.  

 

The day commenced with Mass celebrated by Bishop Greg and concelebrated by Fr. Peter Kooloos, Chaplain of Shanagolden. The heart of the ceremony was witnessing the Sacrament of First Eucharist and Confirmation conferred upon resident, Brian Kennon.

 

The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick was included in the celebration

of  the Mass; a moment of grace and healing.

 

The celebration of Mass was followed with a delicious luncheon; An opportunity for Bishop Greg, to meet residents, guests and staff of Villa Maria Catholic homes.  

 

One of the residents said of the visit, “Bishop Greg's presence was a delight to all, as he effortlessly connected with the young and old alike. His genuine warmth and approachable demeanour made everyone feel valued and cherished. He spent time conversing with the residents, listening to their stories, and sharing moments of laughter.”

 

Bishop Greg's visit to Shanagolden, Villa Maria Catholic Homes was a remarkable day of celebration, blessing, and unity. It was a day that Anne Purcell, Daphne Wright, and Brian Kennon will remember as a milestone on their spiritual journey. The memories created on this day will be cherished for years, reminding everyone of the profound importance of faith, community, and the bonds that connect us all.
