Pakenham, March 10th, 2024

The St Vincent de Paul Society, an esteemed organization committed to serving the underprivileged, commemorated its 170th Anniversary. Founded on March 5th, 1854,  by  Fr  Gerald Ward who set up the first conference in Australia  at St Francis church Melbourne the Society has been a beacon of hope for countless individuals in need.

Established on August 1st, 1969, the Pakenham conference plays a pivotal role in the St Vincent de Paul Society's mission to provide assistance to the local community. Originating in France by St Vincent and his companions, the Society's initial efforts included delivering essential supplies like wood and coal to those in need.

Presently, the dedicated Vinnies volunteers of St Patrick's parish in Pakenham continue this noble tradition by assisting approximately 30 families each week in the local area. With 12 committed members actively engaged in serving the community, the Pakenham conference exemplifies the core values of compassion and solidarity.

In recognition of their steadfast commitment and tireless efforts, the members of the Pakenham conference were honoured on Sunday, March 10th, 2024, at St Patrick's parish. Each volunteer received a certificate of recognition, from fr Janeesh Jose, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the community.

As we celebrate the 170th Anniversary of the St Vincent de Paul Society, let us extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the volunteers who selflessly dedicate their time and energy to making a difference in the lives of others.
