Catholic Professional Standards Ltd (CPSL) was established in November 2016 by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference and Catholic Religious Australia.

CPSL operates independently from the Church under the direction of a Board of Directors and was formed in response to the findings of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Statement of Purpose

Catholic Professional Standards Ltd (CPSL) is committed to fostering a culture of safety and care for children and vulnerable adults by developing National Catholic Safeguarding Standards.

CPSL will audit compliance of Catholic entities throughout the diocese against these Standards, holding the leaders and members of Catholic organisations accountable for the safety of children and vulnerable adults who come into contact with the Church and its works. Enhanced transparency will be ensured through the publication of audit results on the CPSL website. CPSL will conduct audits of Catholic Dioceses, Parishes, schools, health and aged care, social and community service programs, pastoral care and other ministry services.

CPSL will publicly report audit findings and provide education, resourcing and training in respect of the Catholic Safeguarding Standards.
