The Holy Spirit was truly at work in St. Mary’s Cathedral for the Rite of Election this past Sunday. It was standing room only inside the beauty of the cathedral as the names of 103 catechumens and candidates were announced, each one publicly declaring their desire to answer God’s call. Just as powerful was the reply from the sponsors who stood in affirmation, testifying that we are ready to be initiated into Christ’s Body, the Church.
It was a day that gave beautiful witness to faith, hope, and the work of God in all our lives. To be accepted with such grace and joy into the Catholic community was a deeply moving experience and something I will surely never forget.
I found myself awestruck by the significance of the moment. This was not merely a symbolic ceremony, but a decisive turning point. We now move from inquiry and formation into a season of purification and enlightenment — an intense spiritual preparation to die and rise with Christ at the upcoming Easter Vigil.
