How many of us have sighed from the heart and longed for someone we love not to die. This week in the gospel of the raising of Lazarus (John 11) we hear a powerful and very human story. The story reveals Jesus’ deep humanity and deep divinity. It reminds us that when we grieve, God grieves with us and that death is not the end of the story. Just as the stone is rolled away from Lazarus’ tomb, so it will also be rolled away from Jesus’ own tomb.
Let us pray that in this last week of Lent, we will come to a deeper understanding of God’s mercy and compassion. May the grace and blessing of God unbind any weight we are carrying in our lives.
