Rite of Election event

It is customary on the First Sunday of Lent for the local Church to welcome those in our parishes who are part of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) at the Rite of Election. The Rite of Election is one of those moments in the Church’s life where liturgy, story, and human longing meet. At this ceremony, the Church formally ‘elects’ our catechumens and candidates and marks them as ready to proceed toward the reception of the sacraments at Easter.

Let us pray for our Elect as they listen to God’s call for them to become part of the baptised faithful. May the Spirit who accompanied Jesus into the wilderness now accompany our Elect and all of us in our preparations for the great feast of Easter.
