“ Lay people do not belong to the church. Lay people do not have role in the Church. ARE the church through the baptism we all share.” These words from Pope John Paul II nearly forty years ago were the premise of a great Jubilee of Lay Leaders and Ministers held at St John’s Trafalgar on June 15th.
We gathered for a Liturgy of Blessing for lay people who use their gifts and talents to promote, develop, enhance and enrich parish and community life.- eucharistic ministers, visitors to the elderly, sick and housebound, lectors, sacrament preparation teams, pastoral workers, committee members, those who share their skill with a pen, a shovel, a broom, a screen or in the gift of hospitality .
All were remembered and blessed for their share in the life of the Spirit and exhorted to be faithful in their ministries through which the Lord speaks to his people.
