Diocese of Sale Women's Gathering

More than 100 women from across the Diocese of Sale gathered at St Patrick’s Parish Hall, Pakenham, on 14 October for an inspiring evening of conversation, connection, and encouragement an event titled, ‘Navigating the Unseen: Women Leading with Resilience’.

From the moment guests arrived, the hall was filled with a warm and welcoming spirit. Parishioners, parish staff, school faith leaders, Chancery and Catholic Education staff, and members of the Diocesan Mission Council came together, creating a vibrant atmosphere of friendship and shared purpose.

Dr Kim Daniels Keynote Speaker

The keynote speaker, Dr Kim Daniels, brought a wealth of experience and insight to the evening. Drawing on her significant experience in the Church, including her participation in the Synod on Synodality, Dr Daniels reflected on the growing opportunities for women to contribute their gifts and voices to the life and mission of the Church.

Her message was both practical and inspiring. She encouraged women to recognise the leadership they already exercise in their families, parishes, workplaces, and communities, and to continue creating pathways for others through mentoring, advocacy, and service.

“Women already lead, both visibly and quietly, across the global Church. Grounded in our equal baptismal dignity, we are called to open doors for others, mentor the next generation, and take our place at decision-making tables.”

Following the presentation, participants engaged in lively table discussions, sharing their own experiences, hopes, and reflections. The conversations highlighted the many ways women are contributing to the Church today, while also exploring opportunities for greater participation and leadership in the future.

A question-and-answer session allowed attendees to engage directly with Dr Daniels, whose thoughtful responses prompted further reflection and dialogue.

The evening received an overwhelmingly positive response.

“I felt truly energised by what I heard tonight,” one participant shared. “It was encouraging to see so many women from across the diocese come together, share their hopes, and support one another.”

Attendees at the gathering

More than anything, the gathering fostered a strong sense of community. Women left encouraged by the connections they had made and inspired by the shared commitment to nurturing a Church where the gifts, wisdom, and leadership of women are recognised and valued.

As the evening concluded, many expressed a desire for similar opportunities in the future, recognising that gatherings such as these strengthen relationships, deepen understanding, and help build a more connected and hopeful diocesan community.

The event was a powerful reminder that when women come together to share their stories, support one another, and discern the path ahead, the whole Church is enriched.
