Back in the late 1960s, local man Dominic Zagami began fashioning leaves from date palms into intricate woven creations to adorn St Brendan’s Catholic Church on Palm Sunday. He passed these skills onto his willing apprentice, Sam Berlingeri and a tradition was born.

On Friday 6 March, the Parish of Moe-Newborough hosted an ecumenical prayer service at St Kieran’s Church to mark World Day of Prayer. The event drew a wonderful attendance of around 70 people, representing five local Christian denominations, all gathering to share in this global day of devotion.

The Holy Spirit was truly at work in St. Mary’s Cathedral for the Rite of Election this past Sunday. It was standing room only inside the beauty of the cathedral as the names of 103 catechumens and candidates were announced, each one publicly declaring their desire to answer God’s call.

The 2026 World Day of Prayer was held at the Uniting Church in Drouin on Sunday 1st March. The focus country for this year was Nigeria and the speaker for our event was Sister Faustina from the Sisters of the Nativity in Cranbourne.

As we mark the Jubilee of Volunteering, we acknowledge Frank Fennell as a Person of Service in St John’s Parish, Trafalgar. For nearly a century, Frank has served his parish and community in many ways. From his early years as an altar boy to his role in the St Vincent de Paul Society and his ongoing care for St John’s Church and grounds, he has given his time with dedication and love. Frank’s lifelong commitment to volunteering is a testament to the value of service in building a strong community. Let us celebrate his efforts and the impact of all volunteers in our parishes.
