The gospel reading for the second Sunday of Lent is set on a mountaintop. Mountains are important clues from Scripture – they often symbolise a moment of encounter with God.
This week, Peter, James and John are on a mountain top with Jesus, and we hear that Jesus is transformed – ‘his face shining like the sun, his clothes as white as the light’. Jesus is revealed to his companions as the beloved Son of God.
"Let us pray that our Lenten journey will enable us to listen more deeply to Jesus’ call – through our prayerful reading of scripture, in our silence, in our response to the needs of others and to the stirrings of our own hearts."
