On Saturday 4 October 2025, the parish community of St Patrick’s, Pakenham, together with Bishop Greg Bennet, Fr Jeff, Fr Ajin, and people from across the diocese, gathered to celebrate the Jubilee of Marian Spirituality themed “Blessed Virgin Mary - Queen of all Creation”.

The celebration began in the Church, followed by a Rosary Procession. A congregation of over 300 parishioners and visitors processed behind a litter with an adorned statue of Mary, carried by men of the Parish. Voices rang out in celebration, singing “AVE, AVE, AVE MARIA” as the procession moved around the church grounds, stopping to recite a decade of the rosary at various ‘stations’. The rosary was led by the different groups in the parish. The Litany, Hail Holy Queen, and final prayers concluded the procession, back inside the Church.

Following the procession, the community came together for the celebration of the Eucharist, presided over by Bishop Greg Bennet. The liturgy was made especially beautiful by the sound of a combined choir, where members from all 11 choirs in the parish came together to celebrate this special occasion. Adding a profound historical connection to the celebration, the chalice used during the Mass was the very one from Tarraville, the first parish established in the Diocese of Sale over 140 years ago.

In his homily, Bishop Greg encouraged the faithful to follow Mary’s example of pilgrimage and to “walk in the light” closer to her son, Jesus. He emphasised that the Holy Family were Pilgrims of Hope and that Mary’s direction at the Marriage Feast at Cana was her message to us as well; “do whatever He asks you”.

The Jubilee Celebration of Marian Spirituality concluded with a joyful international lunch, with 10 countries represented, reflecting the rich cultural diversity of St Patrick’s parish. Parishioners shared food and friendship, representing the communion of the Church and giving witness to the truth that the people ‘who walked in the darkness have seen a great light’ through our Mother Mary.
