On Friday 6 March, the parish of Moe-Newborough hosted an ecumenical prayer service at St Kieran's church to mark the World Day of Prayer. We were delighted to welcome around 70 members of five local Christian churches.
Theme: “I Will Give You Rest: Come” — Matthew 11:28-30
The focus was on the women of Nigeria, with a service prepared by the World Day of Prayer team in Nigeria and Nigerian women. .
The prayer featured the stories of three courageous Nigerian women. Following each story, were prayers of intercession and a hymn.
The guest speaker was Lynette who had been a missionary in many places including Africa for several decades. She spoke about Christian hope and the faith that these women displayed and how the women came together as a community to support and help each other, even in the darkest of times.
The prayer service gave us the opportunity to learn more about the difficulties and challenges faced by women in northern Nigeria and for us to pray for them and their communities.
A Collection was taken up during the service after which we enjoyed a sumptuous morning tea.
