Priests’ Welfare Foundation of the Diocese of Sale

Father’s Day Appeal 2023 now open

In order to comply with Canon 281 of the Code of Canon Law of the Roman Catholic Church, the Bishop established the Priests Welfare Foundation of Sale on 25 May 1998.

The aim of the  Priests' Welfare Fund is to provide Retired Clergy with social welfare, maintenance, necessities of life and relief from poverty. This fund is focused on Retired Priests who are in necessitous circumstances such as infirmity, sickness, incapacity or old age.

The Foundation does this by:

  • Providing financial assistance for a Clergy Health and Wellbeing Coordinator to assist priests, deacons and their dependants in looking after their physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Providing financial assistance to priests, deacons and their dependants to enable them to pay the costs of the health care they require.
  • Ensuring that priests, deacons and their dependants are not left in poverty in times of sickness, incapacity or old age.

The Foundation finances this from:

  • An annual collection taken up in the parishes of the diocese.
  • Contributions from the Diocese of Sale.
  • Legacies and bequests.
  • Income from its investments.
